Title says it all.
- 9. Baba O'Riley by The Who
"It's only teenage wasteland. They're all wasted". Pretty much summed up 1979 for me. Whooo-hoooo.
- 8. Tie Your Mother Down by Queen
I've seen other Queen songs in other lists, namely "Bohemian Rhapsody". I just liked this one too.
- 7. Smoke On The Water by Deep Purple
On a lot of other lists, I know. "Burn" is my favorite Purple tune.
- 6. Money by Pink Floyd
That one little word is the source of my pain.
- 5. Let It Be by The Beatles
Hard to believe the start of this decade was the end of this band's run. An alien race will discover our planet after were gone, find a dusty copy of the White Album. They'll play it - then have a spasm.
- 4. Hotel California by Eagles
There is a song on that album (when talking 70's music, I can't say CD) titled "Wasted Time". Very cool song.
- 3. More Than A Feeling by Boston
The show in Detroit in 1978 was held at the Silverdome. Featured Boston, Eddie Money and Sammy Hagar. Boston had that huge pipe organ that pretty much covered the back stage.
- 2. Dream On by Aerosmith
Been kind of an anthem for my life. Everytime I've seen something I've wanted and knew it could never be, there was Steven Tyler to remind me.
- 1. Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin
Too many songs could be mentioned by this band. True icons of rock music. I had tickets to see them in 1979 - show was cancelled for a very sad reason.
This was very difficult. I don't think you can sum up this decade of music in just ten songs without leaving out dozens of important bands and hundreds of songs. I was born in 1961 and got to spend my teenage years in this decade with all this cool stuff. What I wouldn't do for a time machine right now.
