OMG I had on of these with the battleship! I loved this toy! Thanks for making me remember this from my childhood!!
Wow.. we had 2 of these. We loved to set them up just so they would barely overlap and then run them in tandem and try to keep them from crashing.
I had this as a kid,spent hours with the barrels trying to balance them on boxes whilst hovering,it was a piece of toy history in my books,Wish it was brought out again,even at my age I'd go and buy it!!!!.
Alan, these re called Vertibird. Look them up online. Ebay has them and I've even seen them at Target in the not too distant past.
This was by far the best toy I had. I would kill the batteries every week I used it so much. If I could find one today I would buy it.
I picked one up at a yard sale for 2 dollars... works great.... i had the one on a styrofoam ship when i was a kid.. still love it, my buddy keeps trying to buy it from me...
Me and my brother had one in 1975 when I was only 7 years old. We fought over it for about 2 weeks until we got it stuck in the orange shag carpet. I was so mad that I got a paper route that my dad helped me with and about a month later I bought me another one. I can't tell you what ever happened to that one. But it was one of the coolest toys we ever had. Besides the big wheel.
johnny carson stuck a cigar in the moving blades to show what it could do to a kids finger.I think they stopped selling them after that!!!
I was Too young but my brothers had one. It went in circles and you would pick up men and machinery with the two levers it was awesome. I would purchase another if i could find one. Great memories cya
Omgosh my brother had one of these and I was never allowed to play with it. I was such a Tom Boy and just wanted one so badly. I wish there was a picture. If I could buy one today I totally would!

I got my Whirlybird on my birthday. My Dad got to it first before I could play with it, AND HE BROKE IT!!! He said he would get me another one, that was forty years ago and i still aint got it yet!!! Ya, I remind him all the time.
That's too funny, my brother and I had at least two, maybe three because they would break so easily. Very delicate, but I remember it well!
I also had the original one without the ship I remember picking up the barricade picking up a car and dropping them off and landing on a little platform it was the best toy I ever owned in my entire life and I would kill for another one well I wouldn't kill but I would really like one
