I think I remember this one, it was about 12-14" tall and if I remember right it was made up of all gears! They would move as it walked, am I correct? I also remember it being very colorful!

Ideal Toys first marketed Mr. Machine late in 1960. Sort of a "teaching toy" to get kids more mechanically inclined. One could totally disassemble and reassemble it, with help from an enclosed instruction booklet. The original was discontinued in 1965 when at least one kid got a part stuck in his throat (no fatalities, fortunately). Ideal introduced a safer, modified Mr. Machine in 1970. The new version could not be disassembled, and the bell replaced by a synthesized "Ah!" Still had the wind-up key. TV commercials for the 1960 version aired locally at first. First network airings included, the "Alvin" cartoon show (10/62, CBS) and "Casper Cartoon Show" (10/63, ABC). Commercial for the 1970 version is from the "Pink Panther" cartoon show (12/12/70, NBC).

My father put it together for my little brother on Dec. 24th...the next morning my brother was ecstatic, winding it up over and over...my father could tolerate the bell but when he couldn't take the AH! Ah! another minute he disconnected it. Nevertheless,I can still hear Mr. Machine's call today!
