The toy/s that you are referring to are called M.A.C. MEN a/k/a Mobile Action Command, made by Matchbox. They were produced from 1974-1978. Although you can find MAC Men in Matchbox catalogs from 1974-1979/80. They came with Mobile Action Command Mountain Rescue Center with three levels. They had a variety of different vehicles: fire fighter unit, ATV unit, snow patrol unit, police patrol unit, emergency repair unit, emergency medical unit, sea rescue vehicle, and air rescue vehicle. They also had Military Division that included a military recon jeep, military "FROGman" unit, military air/search unit and military medic unit. In addition, they had a MAC Rescue Mobile Van Headquarters, Commando Challenge, a slingshot hang-glider called "Wing Thing". Last, but not least, they had my favorite, The Ocean Sea Rescue Unit that included a shark.

Mobile Action Command (MAC) figures and vehicles go up for sale on EBAY pretty much every week. It is tough to find the Commando Challenge playset and the Rescue Van, but you can get the figures and other vehicles at a reasonable price. It is impossible to find the Wing Thing. i guess thet flew over too many fences.

greatest set of toys ever (next to Topper Ding-A-Ling Robots)!! even though the knees always cracked off the MAC men, these toys were affordable miniature GI Joes that I could actually play with ... tons of fun

I've been trying to remember the name of these toys for a long time. i finally ran across a site of vintage toys and finally found them. I loved playing with these when I was a kid. I had the Helicopter and I believe it was the medivac unit. Its the one with the stretcher that slids in by the driver and it had a winch on top. I also had a snow vehicle. It looked just like the one i just described but it had skis for front wheels and it was light blue. Sure would love to find them again. Glad to know there are others that enjoyed them as much as I did.

I am interested in the snow patrol. Anyone have one they are willing to sell? Believe it or not, my brother came up with the idea for adding the snow patrol to the collection. My dad worked for Matchbox at the time. I thought it would be a neat little extra for him for Christmas. (Not looking to spend BIG bucks) ☺

I miss mine, too. I remember the 3 white suits with hoods and rappelling gear were sold on a blister. I got more than one blister. I had the 6-wheeled ATV, and about 4 other vehicles... great stuff. I really miss them.

I had figures in the 70s and I called them Mac Mountain men, but they didn't have all the muscles and facial features. Their upper bodies were kind of square, they were smaller and their torsos swivelled. they were all one color. I remember having tannish ones. Any ideas?
cedric - December 20, 2017 - Report this comment
@Chris B - i believe those were the first generation and were replaced by the larger, musclier lookung ones. They kept the vehicles the same size for some reason, which is why the 2nd gen figures looked too big for the vehicles.
