Mattel came out with this in 1978, and it cost fifty dollars. The fun factor was quite limited. Along with playing running back, you also could punt and kick field goals. The original handheld was one player. You could toggle between Pro 1 (slow computer defense) and Pro 2 (faster defense). There was no computer offense. Game clock would simulate fifteen-minute quarters in three minutes real time. The object was to score as many TD's or FG's that you could. Hardly a full-fledged game. Mattel released Football 2 handheld in 1980, in which the computer also played offense, making it a better simulation. Football 2 sold for $55, while the original was rdeuced to $40.
