Description
You were at the controls of a plane suspended above a rotating landscape disc. Little red buckets were planted strategically in the landscape. Your mission? Release yellow parachutes from the suspended plane with a flick of a switch and with luck have them land in the red buckets. Did I mention the eye lens with crosshairs? It was endorsed by Dick Van Dyke in the TV commercials, so you know it had street cred. Yeah, we all know where Top Gun got its fire from. CHUTES AWAY!

This was a great game. I got this for Christmas in the 70's. It was a great Christmas, needless to say!
I loved this game. I had the regular chutes away game. Fondest memory that I could remember, Was me and my brother was playing the game and, I decided to stick my head under the plane with my mouth open. My brother let one of the chutes go, I ended up swallowing it. Needless to say I survived. Great Game!!!!!

My brother had this game, but what I remember most about it was that my middle school English teacher was a voice over actor who had done the commercial. I can still hear the ad in my head :)
eBay has a Chutes Away for $140. Complete and with box and instructions. Gabriel Toys sold this in 1977. From the Saturday morning cartoon vault, TV commercial with Dick Van Dyke aired on "Skatebirds" over CBS (11/15/77). The show featured live-action, costumed birds and cat, as wraparound for cartoons like "3 Robonic Stooges," who were bionic crime fighters. Voice talent included Paul Winchell (Moe), Frank Welker (Larry, Curly), and Ross Martin as Agent 000, their boss.
