Description
A white (vinyl covered cardboard) fold up case that when it was opened looked like an actual plane. It had four sections once it was unfolded. The front nose section was a flat piece with a door and the picture of a cockpit and pilot. The second section was the passenger compartment with four red seats and brown table. The third section was the flight attendants station with wood grain cabinets and was equipped with a serving cart with serving tray, coffee cups, pitcher, glasses & plates (all orange), yellow apron and fake food. The forth section was the tail section, it also was a flat piece with pictures of suitcases, hanging clothes and other stuff. I believe that the tail fin had to be snapped on once the plane was unfolded and removed when you were putting it away. Once it was unfolded and you looked at it from the outside the plane was white with red, blue and black “United” logo.

I just found one at a flea market and had to have it!! Lots of memories too. I gave it to my little girl who actually played with it more than five minutes.

Didn't play with Barbies but loved planes...so I had to have it when I was a kid. My G.I. Joe and Fisher Price little people (I wasn't a stickler about scale) had many fun trips to Hawaii.

I had this! I've seen them on ebay and almost all of them are missing the plates, cups, etc. Doesn't surprise me. Great memories.

Oh I LOVED playing with this barbie plane! I didn't have one but my older cousins had it and they kept it up in their closet, on the top shelf, and every time I went over I would always open the closet door & look up to see the barbie plane. Abs I'd tell my cousins to take it down so I could play with it & their barbies that were inside of it. When they outgrew their dolls, guess who got their barbies? YUP, I did! And I still have some of them & have since replaced the ones that for lost along the way: Malibu BARBIE (with frizzy hair) FLUFF (I thought she was skipper) DUSTY SONNY & CHER Those were the barbies that my cousins kept in their friendship airplane. And I would take my Malibu PJ to their house with me to play with their barbies. I loved pushing the cart with one of the doll to serve the passenger dolls. So simple yet so entertaining. Sweet memories...

This unusual Barbie set came out in 1973. It originally sold for $13, and a complete one with box now averages $160. The named referred to Untited's "Fly the Friendly Skies" slogan. From the Saturday morning cartoon vault, a TV spot for this aired on "Inch High Private Eye" over NBC (9/22/73). This mystery-comedy cartoon involved Inch High, his niece, Laurie and boss, Finkerton, a detective. Also, Laurie's boyfriend, Gator, who tagged along and helped solve cases, and dog Braveheart, a cowardly St. Bernard.
