My brothers and I grew up in Sacramento..the city of trees. In the fall the weather began to turn, the brown leaves falling from the trees. We would walk down to the 5 and dime and buy our wax lips and halloween wax whistles. We would walk home from the store making music with our little wax harmonicas... The paper on the top of the wax would wear down, we'd peel it off and chew up the little musical instrument. I can still taste and smell it after 45 years.. isn't it amazing what we remember and how we can recall taste, smell and image of exactly where we were while enjoying our whistles. I'd pay 10 times the amount to buy my brother and I a whistle.. so we could relive our youth for a few hours.
