The Aurora monster kits go back to 1960, and many were licensed by Universal Pictures. Toward 1972, the women's lib movement was well underway, and certain monster kits were targeted that displayed wanton exploitation, such as the werewolf carrying an unconscious woman in his arms. eBay has a bunch of these, selling up to $200 unused in box. The Monogram (Mattel) company did copycats of these, but in less violent fashion.
