Vi: Understandably, a tough topic. Colorforms has, since inception in 1956, frowned upon any imitators from rival toy companies. Anyone thinking of doing so faced an infringement suit. The vinyl pieces and background board (character or non). Even in Canada and Europe, I found nothing that resembled or imitated Colorforms. The vinyl parts in each Cartoon Kit were many objects, not just shapes. I'll use the most valuable Colorform set made. From 1966, the Beatles Cartoon kit (based on Saturday morning show, and now worth $hundreds$). The background board was a stage, the vinyl parts were of each Beatle and instruments, plus other props. Third party licensee was Nems Enterprises through A.C. Gilmer and King Features. Found nothing on eBay that resembled competition or imitation toy products. I'll keep looking. Only other possibility may be those with magnetized parts.
