Troll toys were created first in Denmark in 1958. The U.S. did not see these until mid-1963. They were of the one-inch variety, encased in plastic and sold in gum machines. Some kids may have gotten them from their doctor or dentist for being quiet while getting a shot. My sources gave no details of how Trolls first made it here (importing company), but they became an instant hit. Simple word of mouth, rather than a marketing strategy, made the little creatures big sellers. The fad started to dwindle toward 1967, as Big Daddy Roth's Rat Fink figures made the scene.
