Mary is absolutely right. They were called Toastem Popups. I ought to know, my late father was part of the team at Post Cereals who helped develop the machinery to make the product. They graciously put his name on the patent! By the way, to Battle Creek natives (yes, Post is in Battle Creek too, the first cereal manufacturer here) it was always Postum, I suspect the Toastem name was a play on that.
