I can't remember the exact spelling of Johnny, in Johnny Cakes (Jonnie, Jonny, whatever), but C Christian is right (2 yr comment above). They were a Nabisco product, sold loose from a big glass jar. In the grocery store where I worked as a kid (in the '50s), they were 4 for a nickel. And in the center of the top side of the rather flat, ~3 inch oval cookie the single word Jonny (whatever the correct spelling was) baked in. And they were indeed eaten with cheese for many a po' folks Sat night supper (from rural Ga). And today, the Nabisco cookie called Social Tea is pretty close to the same taste.
