These and t-shirt dresses were about the only dresses accepted by teenage classmates in the ultra-casual mid-70s, a time when everyone wore t-shirts and jeans everywhere. I remember smocked sundresses being popular in white cotton gauze with eyelet trim (sometimes eyelet shoulder straps) and tiered or flounced skirts to just-below-the-knee or mid-calf. Also popular in tiny floral prints, sometimes a different floral print in each tier of the skirt, but almost always trimmed in eyelet lace. Matching shawls were popular with these, as were flowers tucked in the hair and wedge-heeled, ankle-wrapped, canvas espadrilles.
