Sugar Daddy and Sugar Babies originated in 1935 by Welch Candy Co. (not the grape juice one). Nabisco took ownership around 1969. The inaugural issue (late 1976) of "Welcome Back, Kotter" comic books has an ad. Kids could get vouchers for tickets to NBA and NHL games (with paid adult) by sending in wrappers from Sugar Daddy, Mama or Babies. The main comic story has Kotter preparing to leave Brooklyn for a Manhattan school (to appease his wife). Fearing Kotter will be replaced with a tough teacher, the Sweat Hogs convince Mrs. K to help in keeping Gabe in their school. A retired teacher of Kotter's from the sixties shows up to persuade him to stay at Buchanan High. Kotter tears up his transfer papers.
