At my first grade birthday party in 1964, I received two Squirmy Hermies. Yes, I remember it as Squirmy Hermie, not Herman. Maybe I liked the rhyme, or maybe I am the only one that knows. The ones I got: One was a fuscia pink, and one was tealish green. As I remember, they were 12 - 13" long, and about 4 - 4 1/2" wide. I believe they were made of real sheepskin. They had glued on eyes. They were flat, you petted them, and they would hump up, and move along. They were advertised on TV at that time in San Diego, California, so it was great getting a popular product, right along side the Barbie commercials on Saturday cartoon day. There were knockoffs years later, usually consisting of fake fur and woven undermatting. Never as durable or cool looking.
