Ahhhhh, someone else remembers too! .....Every once in a while I think of spoon candy and how extremely good it tasted at 10 years old. My family was crazy about it. There is no way a box could have survived in our house unless it was cast in concrete and dropped into the deepest lake. Disputes ensued over who snuck to the refrigerator and ate more than their fair share. It got so bad we had to stick individual name flags made of toothpicks and paper in the tops of the chocolate. Sometimes that didn't work and the person who made the batch ended up eating it all before anyone else knew. I really think Jell-o discontinued making spoon candy to save families like ours from self-destruction. There would have been spoon candy anonymous groups all over the country if it had continued into the 80's. I also remember the chocolate flavored peanut butter of the 70's, it was like a low-budget Nutella, also deadly.
