The comment about the Williams brothers' snorkel is orgasmic. I know from my schooldays that a snorkel parka only started to get ripe after 2 years of solid wear. The outer shell became smooth and as shiny as glass as the nylon pores became clogged up with sweat and dirt, especially on the shoulders, cuffs, elbows and around the slash pockets. But best of all were the padded diamonds of the orange lining that got so sodden with grime and caked in oily filth they looked like polished black leather.
