From the Saturday morning cartoon vault, TV commercial which introduced Skipper's new girl friend, Skooter. This aired on "Tom & Jerry" over CBS (10/9/65). Mattel first introduced Skipper (as Barbie's younger sister) in 1964. Mattel was harshly criticized, by those of the early feminist movement, citing that Barbie was an overt sex symbol, and that Skipper, the more "wholesome" one, was intended to take some heat off the toymaker's reputation. Then, in 1974, another controversy erupted over Mattel's new Growing Up Skipper, in which a movement of the arm resulted in two certain body parts enlarging. For a toy, this went a bit deep. Sort of a way of making kids grow up too fast.
