I was searching for some info on my 'Aunt Wick' who owned the company which originally made this. She was the sister of an aunt I lived with periodically and my neighbors were duly impressed when she stopped by our suburban Cape Cod (house style) in a chauffeur-driven limo :) When I was in college in the 60s, I had a friend who was pre-med (and now likely retired from Family Medicine). When he saw I had bought soda, he said, why are you buying that, you should get some 'Auntie' Wick's--and pulled out a package of the Root Beer he carried with him, and told me he couldn't have gotten through college without this, either, Jeff, and he worked his butt off. I cracked up and answered, that's MY Aunt Wick. I hadn't realized how widespread her products were--this was in Pittsburgh and she lived in Chicago. Years ago her company was purchased by a much larger one, which I think was absorbed by Con-Agra, but I could be wrong on that. Her sister, my Aunt Rose, passed on years ago, in her 80s. (She had been immensely generous to me and I miss her and was getting nostalgic....)
