It's funny that so many people remember rondo from such a young age, as I do...: around 3rd grade or so for me, so about 1979, one of the rondo commercials that most impressed us involved japanese martial arts with a weapon. Like kendo (but another comment suggested that it was sparring with a staff). My best friend from two houses around the corner took our almost-weightless plastic baseball bats on the front lawn and beat them together--and a passing car yelled the rondo reference out the window. I can't remember if at the time that was embarrassing or not.
