Back in the late 60's, I remember Ring Dings being much, much larger, and all individually wrapped in either silver or gold foil, which was a challenge to get off on a warm day. But then again, licking the foil was always a treat! I also remeber the cake being much more moist and "richer", and the dark chocolate coating could easily be peeled off if you weren't careful opening the wrapper. The little ones they try to pawn off as Ring Dings today were originally Ring Ding Jr.'s, but they don't taste as good as I remember. Maybe if we all wrote and asked them to come out with a special edition for all of us Ring Ding lovers, based on the original size, specs, and packaging? I'd willingly pay top dollar for a box of those.
