I was in the 4th grade when Pommac hit our elementary school in Mississippi.. [around '67] a few things stand out.. first was the size of the bottle.. we had the old fashioned drink machine that you put in your 10¢;opened door, and pulled drink out.. bottle was so small, when you pulled the drink out of the opening, you could push the door just enough to where it would feed the next bottle into the empty slot.. class mates would end up with 5-6 bottles for the price of 1.. have always wondered if that may be the reason it only stayed in our school for 1 year.. we also used to sing 'Pommac, it tastes like kerosene, Pommac, it makes your teeth all green, Pommac it makes me vomit, so drink your Pommac and vomit today'.. Apple Beer came along a year or so later, if not mistaken.. the brown bottle it came in made all 4th-5th graders feel like we were grown ups.. if not mistaken, while other 10 ounce drinks were 10¢ at the time, Apple Beer was 20¢.. we would pour it into ice trays; saran wrap over the tray; tooth picks into each cube.. beer popsicles.. I am SO glad other people remember these type things also... I am 55 years old and have been blessed with a memory for the 'useless' informational things of my childhood.. would love to find a catalog from the middle-late 60s which was used by local mom/pop stores to order their weekly supplies.. does anyone also remember 'Flying Things" that were styrofoam airplanes? they hit our local grocery store around '67 also..
