I grew up in Northlake Illinois, back in the days when your neighborhood actually had a "corner store" that was privately owned, had a deli/butcher shop, groceries and the kids favorite...the candy/ice cream counter. In the 70's and early 80's we had Vic's finer foods on Fullerton and Roberta....I remember being very little (1973/4) and going there in the summer and my sisters would buy a frozen box of "Poke-Ums". They were the new sensation...a clear plastic bag with a sharp straw and a bright red Hawaiian Punch sweet drink inside. They didn't last long, they would rupture, break, spill, etc. But they were juice boxes LONG before their time and a great cold summer treat. I mention these and I get looked at like I'm nuts...wish we could find a picture on line. I get told same thing when I mention Yabba Dabba Dew or Moonstone Ceral or my favorite candy bars: Choco-Lite and Marathon.
