Jay Foods, best known for potato chips since 1927, first introduced O-Ke-Doke cheese popcorn in 1971. Jay's aged manufacturing plant in Chicago closed in 2007, production shifted to Indiana (Snyder Foods). Jay's delved into popcorn, hoping to gain a better competitive edge over Frito-Lay. Kinda worked, but Frito-Lay still rules the snack industry. Here's a history note on the company: The original name was Mrs. Japp's Potato Chips. The Japp family founded the company. After Pearl Harbor in 1941, the family quickly changed the name to Jay, for obvious reasons (same as anybody named Adolf/Adolph did the same after war was declared on Germany).
