I have never talked to anyone who remembers "No Jelly" candy bars, so I'm glad I found this site. I remember them so well. They were delicious! Made by Peter Paul for a short time during the mid 70's. Not exactly sure what color the wrapper was, though I think it was tan (the color of peanut butter). I do remember though, that the lettering on it was dark purple (the color of grape jelly). In small letters at the top of the label it said, "Peanut Butter with", and below that in large letters it said, "NO JELLY". I remember there were at least a couple of different commercials advertising them, but the only one I remember clearly was the one with the vaudville-type couple back stage--Peanut Butter (the guy) telling a crying Jelly (the lady) that he was going solo. I think the consistency of the candy bar was more soft than crispy, cuz it reminded me of Reese's Peanut Butter cups. It was around the time of those great Reese's commercials that always involved a person holding a chocolate bar colliding with a person holding an open jar of peanut butter. One of them would always say, "hey, you got CHOCOLATE on my peanut butter", and the other one would say, "no, you got peanut butter on MY CHOCOLATE". Then they would each taste what they had and fall in love with it and the announcer would say, "two great tastes that taste great together". I always thought this was why Peter Paul came up with "No Jelly" candy bars--so they could compete with Reese's. They weren't out for very long, but I wish they still were. They were yummy. BTW, not to tout Reese's, but the commercials they had this spring with the chocolate bunny getting together with the jar of peanut butter and then producing Reese's peanut butter eggs a'la old school... all to the tune of Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" was classic. Especially since that song was popular when the original "You got peanut butter in my chocolate" commercials ran during the mid 70's.
