I consider myself a novice expert lol on Nabisco products. My dad was a salesman for Nabisco from the late 1960's to the early 1990's. Nabisco was founded as the National Biscuit Company (or NBC for short) in 1898. The NBC was dropped in the early 20th century due to the confusion with the National Broadcasting Company (NBC). They still kept the original cookie molds and that is why the cookies still had NBC on them. I was raised on Nabisco products (I was born in 1978) and remember quite a few that were only in production for a short time or were finally discontinued for cost reasons. After reading these posts, I remember the Nabisco Butter Cookie. However, I used to eat it as a part of the Nabisco "Favortie Assortment" package. It was pink in color and had a paper wrapping over a cardboard box. The box contained Oreos, Nabisco Sugar Wafers, Nabisco Butter Cookies, Brown Edge Wafers (I believe), and one or two other varieties. It was nice because you had 5 different varieties of cookies in one box. I also fondly remember the Nabisco Almost Home line that was introduced in the early 1980's. They had a BIG soft chocolate creme sandwich that was about the size of Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pies but tasted MUCH better. They only lasted a year or so. I'm sure that they were also discontinued because they were too costly to make. Nabisco also invented the toaster pastry. Nabisco came out with their Toastettes line before Kellogg's Pop tarts. They were much better than Pop Tarts and had more filling. Alas, they also "gave up" and Pop Tarts became the king of toaster pastries. The Brown Edge Wafers were a part of the "Gold Line" (the packages were all gold in color) and tehre were about 5 different varieties. One of the best was the Brown Edge Wafer sandwiches, which had 2 Brown Edge Wafers with chocolate in the middle. I am really surprised that Nabisco still makes Pinwheels because they are made from real chocolate and only offered in the cold months. They were also one of Nabisco's priciest cookies, even 25 years ago. Some other people mentioned Chocolate Snaps. I was helping my dad on his territory in Louisville, KY in the late 1980's and we were in a Pic Pac (IGA type store). I happened to walk next door to a Family Dollar and found Nabisco Chocolate Snaps on the shelf. They had been long-discontinued in Louisville but Family Dollar had some on the shelf. They were probably a special buy from corporate. If anyone is interested, my dad has quite a few "product cards" from the 1960's and 1970's, which show the packages of products during that time. I will see if he has a picture of the Nabisco Butter Cookies package.
