From the daytime TV vault, how a box of Mars Bars won somebody over $10,000 on "Let's Make a Deal" over ABC in August, 1972. Monty Hall gave a man the box (containing a secret dollar amount). The man turned down the curtain, dodging a "Zonk." The box of Mars Bars contained a promissory $1500. The man buys a shot at the Big Deal with it. He picked the right door, winning a Cadillac El Dorado and 100 gallons gasoline (then, 35 c/gal.) for total of $10,500. When "Deal" began its Canadian run in the 1980s, Hall's announcer, Jay Stewart, was unavailable due to other commitments. Stewart (last name: Fix) had steady work after "Deal's" first run ended. Tragically, multiple events (daughter's suicide), depression and alcoholism added up to Stewart taking his own life in 1989 (age 71). Hall (real name: Halpmann) passed on last year, age 96.
