Mars Bars consisted originally of vanilla nougat topped with three or four whole almonds, all coated in chocolate. Something about the simplicity of the formula made them different from other candy bars, and to me, more delectable. Mars Bars were also less sweet overall than most candy bars, so you could perceive the distinct flavors and textures of the three primary components. In contact, Snickers came off to me like a homogeneous sugar bomb. Some time in the late 70's or early 80's, the company added a layer of caramel to the mix, and ruined the experience. Mars Bars became as cloyingly sweet as a Snickers, and almost indistinguishable from it in flavor. As Mars as a product was now indistinct from Snickers, it is not surprising that the brand identity was dispoed of and the product itself absorbed into the Snickers line. Wish they'd brig the original back. That's a candy bar I'd buy.
