One night, some kids from the neighborhood spent the night and my Mom made us all pancakes in the morning. One of the neighborhood kids went home to tell his Mom that Mrs X's syrup is so good. She makes it herself. Of course that kid's Mom called to tell my Mom not to go to all the trouble of doing special things for her kids when they spend the night, like making syrup from scratch. My Mom sure got a laugh out of it when she told the neighbor that she used Mapleine just to save money.
