Another product made great by longevity alone. The origin of Jiffy Pop goes back to 1958 (Mennen Foods), but our beloved popcorn didn't gain national prominence until 1960 (new parent company: American Home Products). The famous all-aluminum pan (NOT microwavable) which ballooned up as it cooked. I found two very early TV commercials for Jiffy POP. First, with the Marquis Chimps which aired on the "Casper the Ghost" cartoon show (11/2/63, ABC). Second, with Dick Clark on "American Bandstand" from 1/22/66, ABC. Clark demonstrates how easy cooking it is. His made-up slogan was: Jiffy Pop: The Neat Treat That'll Make Your Party Really Swing! Jiffy POP was around 75 cents then, and you got a fair amount of popcorn.
