I grew up in New Rochelle, NY, in the '50s and remember Hoffman's Cream and Black Cherry flavors. Great stuff! Soda tasted better then because it was made with real sugar, not high fructose corn syrup (yecch!). Somehow, I thought it was a national, not regional, brand. I was wondering when and why they folded - squeezed off the shelves by the national brands, perhaps? Re: jingles, I remember two. "The prettiest girl...." came to mind tonight, which is what led me here. The original is a folk-type song with "cider" instead of "Hoffman." It was a 1953 hit (with "soda") for Guy Mitchell, written (or co-opted) by a folkie named Paul Campbell. The other one is the "university/thirs-i-ty" jingle; I remember it as a march with some hokey cartoons on the TV ad and also as a radio ad. Thanks to everyone who posted; you made my night! And if the person who wants to kickstart it gets serious, let me know; I'm in various places on line under this name.
