From the Saturday morning cartoon vault, an example of how a TV network can shamelessly use the sponsor of one show to promote several others within a few minutes. The show: "Top Cat" (rerun). The Sponsor: Ideal Toys. This aired on NBC (12/4/65). First two ads were for Hands Down (updated version) and Mouse Trap. Then, next break, an ad for a board game based on the sitcom, "Camp Runamuck." The cartoon drawing on the box looked nothing like the stars of the show: Character actors Arch Johnson (camp leader), Dave Ketchum and Dave Madden (camp counselors). Second, and more popular, the "Get Smart" Exploding Time Bomb game, in which a two-piece, with spring and suction cup, plastic toy bomb, was the integral part of the game. On the box, a photo of Don Adams (on shoe phone) is superimposed against a cartoon city scene, littered with gun and bomb-toting thugs. The player markers are molded in the shape of Maxwell Smart (four different colors).
