My mother also was a Hallmark bean fan and everyone loved them. What I found thats pretty close and very good is a recipe in a Weber Grill cookbook. It uses canned beans as a base, I use Bush original. You have to cook them in a oven or grill for at least an hour so they thicken up and give you that stick to the spoon concisity. http://virtualweberbullet.com/beans.html I also add a small chopped onion that was called for in the recipe from my 30 year old Weber cookbook.
