I was raised on Hallmark beans, and my kids loved them, too! The recipe is great! But what made these beans different was the fact that they were precooked and then dried, again, by a special process that was closely guarded by the company. That's what made them cook faster without all the soaking and boiling, and it made them more tender and more easily digestible. I looked for info online but could not find any references to what actually happened. I think I remember hearing something about the company burning down. The owner decided not to rebuild and kept the process a secret. So, no more Hallmark beans. Interestingly, I talked to my older sister (We're both over 65) about this, tonight, and she actually still had a box of the beans in the back of her pantry, which she is sending to me! Wouldn't it be neat to have the beans analyzed to see if the process revealed itself? Someone might be able to replicate the process, get the production line rolling, and re-introduce these great beans to a new generation!
