I am a Kansas City MO native, born in 1927. In 1939 the family moved from 33rd & Garfield to 8556 Troost (just across the old Dodson streetcar line from Strouds restaurant & bar,) where my parents started a chicken-raising enterprise to provide frying chickens to local restaurants. My father, George C. Wilson, met Guy Caldwell, whose residence was just off Troost about 83rd Street, had begun a potato chip business in his kitchen. As entrepreneur home-based businesses catering to South KC eateries, they become friends. Times were tough and when either dad or Mr. Caldwell were blessed with an unusually large hurry-up order they would help each other to avoid hiring extra help.
