Surprisingly, no comments here. OK, Gonk fans, here we go! A German-immigrant toymaker, Adolf Gund, started a stuffed toy business around 1900 in Edison, NJ. In England, the hairy Gonk toys were created around 1965 were created. Early ones included caricatures of the Beatles and Merseybeat artists like Gerry Marsden (Pacemakers) and Billy J. Kramer (Dakotas). The toys were shown off at least once on the teen dance/music show, "Ready, Steady, Go!" In 1971, the Gund company took notice, and negotiated rights with the British company to make and sell Gonk toys, with wide array of faces, characters and designs.
