I, like John and some others, remember the 2-pack and 3-pack non-chewy versions which were available even into the 80s or early 90s, but I also remember getting the even bigger single-packed ones as a kid *years* before that (early to mid 70s). Our local convenience store only ever carried them in pink (cherry) or purple (grape). Don't know if those single-pack biggies came in other flavors. They were 3-4" in diameter and at least 1/2-3/4" thick. Man, I miss those...
