As a teenager, during high school and college vacations, I worked for Athol Research Company in Athol, MA. The owner of the company was Arthur Bernstein, who lived in NYC and would come to the plant a couple of times a year. I remember mixing the fidget material on the shipping dock in a 55-gallon drum with a boat motor during the summer and even assembling them. The fidget material was a mixture of paint and oil that was applied to a black mylar type material with adhesive around the edges. The plastic disk placed over the mylar after a blob of paint was applied. The company no longer exists but I don't know if the technology was ever sold to another company.
