Thanks for the tip, #1 Farrell's Fan! I found one of the California location menus. WHEW! The menu and prices are typical sports bar...HIGH! $13 for a burger, $10 for a banana split, $4 to $6 for a sundae or shake, $3 for a Coke and $15 for a small birthday cake. Prices in 1971 Milwaukee were much lower, but still high compared to fast food. I only found very little across the net regarding the old Milwaukee Farrell's. No ads or pictures, but a few blogs from ex-employees and customers. I get it: Sports bars are still in. It still bugs me how a good family venue becomes just another sports bar over time. If it were 1971 Milwaukee, and I was only nine years old, I wouldn't have wanted some drunk stumbling in on my ice cream party, yelling obscenities and picking a fight with an adult in my company. That's what sports bars generate.
