These were really popular in the mid-70s, peaking about 1977, as I recall, when there were even Famolare knee boots and a few men's styles. Everyone said they were really comfortable; really, a lot of the high wedge platforms of the 70s were said to be comfortable. They had high heels but your weight was distributed evenly and they didn't pinch your toes or force you to walk on needle heels like shoes of the 1950s, 80s, 90s, and later. You mostly saw medium-high-heeled wedge heel Famolares but flat ones were also popular, particularly in a sandal style that girls in my school called "sand flats." I remember girls wearing Famolare sandals with tiered sundresses, A-line denim skirts, and gauchoes in the mid-70s.
