I felt exactly as you. I had a very similar experience. I started wearing them since I was a teenager but at first I wasn' t so brave to confess it to my first girlfriends. Until I met a woman ( now my companion ) who encouraged me to wear them indoor and especially outdoor. So now from spring to autumn I wear them every day in Rome. Except when I am at work where I dress formally I have always on a pair of wooden Scholl's with no socks and a pair of cargo pants or a one piece jumpsuit.
