From the Saturday morning cartoon vault: TV commercial which displayed all the various Chatty Cathy dolls. Most prominently: Charming Cathy, the one with dark-framed eyeglasses and straight blonde hair. This aired on the "Bugs Bunny Show" over ABC (9/12/64). The first Chatty Cathy's came out in 1960. Originally said 11 phrases ("May I have a cookie?"), later expanded to 18. Charming Chatty had a different talk feature, requiring the owner to purchase small records which were inserted into a special player built in the torso. Whitman Publishing issued a coloring book of Charming Chatty. Mattel discontinued most of the Chatty Cathy line in 1966, keeping Charming Chatty an extra year. Higher production costs and declining sales the reasons. Charming chatty first made the scene in 1963.
