My friend Jill had these and she would break a little off for me. They were definitely in yellow paper, definitely Carnation breakfast bars. The kind I crave are the original 1977 salty peanut-based bars. In the 80's they changed them to granola to save money because they were primarily peanuts. They were amazing. Yes, chalky. I have tried to recreate them. sea-salt, tiny chocolate chips, maybe a hint of vanilla. I just can't get it quite right. I laughed reading one person's comment about it reminding them of Kodak paper. Truth! I wrote Carnation about 6 years ago asking for a return of the original. They were awesome. I got the same form-response. I don't want a coupon. I want people to stop making crappy oatmeal bars for breakfast. I'd love something easy my kids could grab that was actually good for them.
