From the Saturday morning cartoon vault, we go back a few years before Vanilly Crunch. Cap'n Crunch and crew land on Crunch Berry Island in search of the friendly Crunch Berry Beast, who only knows the secret to growing Crunch Berry bushes. Pirate Jean LaFoote wants to profit from the beast, but genius kid Alfie devises a plot to thwart the pirates. This aired during "George of the Jungle" on ABC (1/27/68). Kenner Spirograph, Quisp cereal, Mounds candy bar and Wham-O Frisbee also sponsored. Network promo for "New Beatles" cartoon show. Disney did no justice to this cartoon in the 2004 live action remake. Surprised Disney hasn't copied "Super Chicken" or :Tom Slick," the other cartoons on the "George" show. ABC reran the cartoon on Saturday or Sunday morning until 1970. When the network briefly revived "George of the Jungle" in 1994, much of the simulated violence or displays of a gun were chopped out, making for really disjointed cartoons. Why'd they bother?
