Hi "Barbara's Family" - Re: Marguerite - she was Ray's wife. I too remember Walter Hanson as the original plant manager (? on the last name). When he retired, Palmer took over as plant manager. I remember butchers Sam and Isaac too - both wonderful men. I remember Sam being so emotional when his twin sons graduated from high school! Most of the rest of the staff was Spanish speaking. Heh - I remember one day when a green linen truck pulled up in the back, and most of the staff ran out the front door. "Chewy" slowed down long enough to say something like "....siento, senorita, La Migra!!!" just before he too dashed off. Hours later they all drifted back. Yes, most of the employees were illegal workers, but back in the 70s, it wasn't an issue. When Ray died, his step-son, Mimi's son took over. At that point I was laid off from my office position so one of the grandsons could take my place. No problem for me - I couldn't have stayed watching them run "Ray's company". I do often wonder about Hoover Uchizono, Ray's right-hand man (CFO-type) in the office. Something funny - altho I too grew up on the "Buttered Beef Steaks", once I started working there I couldn't stand to cook them. Every time the packaging machine got out of sync, the hot sealing blades would come down wrong and end up cooking the meat. I got so I couldn't stand the smell of them cooking at home, after smelling them all day at work. Thanks for the memories. I'm so glad you all can still find "Ray's" steaks and enjoy them.
