There was a Burger Chef on Gulfway Drive in Port Arthur, Texas near Thomas Jefferson High School. I bought my very first hamburger on Tuesday nights when they were two burgers for 20 cents. They were fantastic and I would find and trade in milk and coke bottles at Abraham’s grocery store and then beg my Dad to go watch the church softball team play so I could sneak over and get two burgers. The burgers were so good I dreamed all week until Tuesday’s arrived. A 5th grader learning how to get money to buy great tasting food. A true life lesson still serving me today.
