Starting in 1981, Burger Chef had the Super Shef, which was a 1/3 lb. patty with cheese and all the junk (veggies). Also, the Top Shef, a 1/3 lb. patty, cheese, onion, pickle and bacon. While none of the available TV spots mention it, the Big Shef may have been a quarter-pounder, or like a Big Mac with salad dressing to add flavor. BC cooked its burgers over open flame, while McDonald's used a frying grill.
