I worked for Burger Chef from 1968 to 1977. I worked in a few different stores in different states, and met a lot of good people. In my opinion, when General Foods bought the chain is when it went downhill. Most of its stores were franchised, and the company provided no guidance or support for them so they went in all different directions with menus, standards, and the like. So then, the customer didn't know what to expect when they went to Burger Chef because there were so many differences. I'm sure this was a major factor in their demise.
