As I recall Adam Faiths jacket - as worn by him in his series 'Budgie' was actually by Stirling Cooper (Wigmore Street back then) it was a light canvas (8oz duck) cloth. These jackets had contrasting horizontal stripes across front chest area. They had various colourways - on was black with white stripes..there may have been the inverse. A good dark brown with white stripes (as Nigels) No stripes on arms.. Purple and off white were popular.. Vertical zippered pockets were let into this area - the lapels were dreadful rabbit ear things. I had a neutral with grey-blue stripes. As mike guessed they were called 'Budgie' jackets as a result of the show.. then other non Stirling Cooper jackets of vaguely similar shape took the name.. One or two Stirling Cooper ones in V & A I believe.. They may have been designed by Anthony Price - but not sure about this as I can't see him doing big floppy lapels even back then..
